What We Do

Real Snow. YES?

Many of our customers give us a confused look when we say REAL snow.

Do we transport it, NO

Do we open the roof? NO

WE MAKE IT

How?

  1. A Large water tank full and cooled. We use a tank that has 20m3 (20 tonnes of water) to cool our water using super chilled pipes carrying Ethanol Glycol at temperatures as low as -16 °c
  2. A Compressor… This pushes the water and air to the 16 guns at really high Pressure. We have our system running at 22 bar of pressure
  3. Insulated piping… This transports the water and Air to our specialist snow guns.
  4. Snow gun… This has 2 input sections for water and air. Both are mixed in the barrel of the snow gun and are sprayed out of a specialist Nozzle creating a snow flake!
  5. COLD! You need the air to be cold… We create our snow in an environment where the temperature is between -4°c and -9°c

We groom the snow slope each night using a pistenbully kässbohrer!

Once the slope has closed we groom for around 2 hours but sometimes itcan take a little longer to get the conditions our customers expect. We make snow frequently and this is groomed across the 205m long slope.

We need to ensure the surface is just as cool! Our snow is cooled much the same way we cool the water to make the snow, using a system of pipes we run super chilled glycol under the slope, keeping the ground temperature at around -12˚C

REAL SNOW FACTS!

  • Our slope has 170 tonnes of snow, which equates to ten Blue Whales or 5,700 Emperor Penguins.
  • Celeb spotting on our slope - The Maccabbees, Peter Andre and Paulo Nutini.
  • We have taught over 1 million people to ski or snowboard on our snow!
  • There is enough snow on our slope to fill more than 30,000 wheelbarrows!
  • The slope is 205 metres long - the length of 8 and a half tennis court.
  • The slope is housed in a giant freezer with a ground temperature of -12°c and air temperature of up to -5°c.
  • The Pistenbully that pushes the snow around our slope weighs a colossal 5,200kg – the weight of 5 small cars!
  • In 2011 Snow Factor took 30 tonnes of its snow to the siberian tigers at Blairdrummond Safari Park,
  • Our snow has also been taken to shopping centres, as part of a 10km obstacle race and Kelvingrove Park.
  • Loads of filming for TV and film has taken place on our slope - the perfect location.
