Your Instructors
Bernie
Disciplines:
Snowboard, Freestyle Snowboard
I first tried to snowboard at age 13, braving gale force winds at my nearest mountain, The Lecht. Since then I have enjoyed riding the Alps across Europe and a few visits to North America and Canada. Having spent years working with young people as a playworker / carer, i decided to do my 1st instructor course - to combine my passion and experience in playing on a snowboard and people based work. What a laugh it is!
Learned in the beautiful mountains of Germany where we would ski in perfect formation, in matching Lycra before briefly stopping for a schnitzel or currywurst. i became an instructor because I enjoy being in charge and ordering people about 😉
I grew up in Aviemore where I learned to board. I spent two seasons in Canada where I was mistaken for Ryan Gosling on a regular basis. I am pretty sure I am his doppelganger.
After learning to ski and board on the hill I quickly came to realise it was something I loved to do.
I’ve been lucky enough to carve out a career as a ski and board instructor before expanding my skill base as an Ice Climbing instructor and Race Coaching for Snow Factor Racing.
Having taken a job with the company 8 years ago as Slope Team Leader and progressed through my teaching qualifications with Snow Factor I’ve now gained my BASI 1 Ski & Snowboard qualifications in addition to my UKCP Ski Freestyle and Race Coaching qualifications too.
It’s great to progress through a company and have them invest in your development, especially when it allows you to do what you love for a living. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!
