We have been keeping this under the radar for a few months now, but we are so excited to announce that we have the go-ahead to install the world’s first skylight that instantly transforms rain into snow.
The retractable skylight (see diagram) will be positioned over the main slope. it will use traditional
A BIT OF BACKGROUND
First developed in the 1990’s by the late Professor Wons, a snow-making engineer from Switzerland, the technology has snowballed into a feasible means of snowmaking. We have been in talks for some time to acquire the rights to the ground-breaking technology and are delighted to announce that we have recently sealed the deal.
WHEN CAN YOU EXPECT TO SEE THE SKYLIGHT?
A smaller prototype skylight is expected to be installed by Glasgow-based Glaziers, McCluskey Glazing LTD, for the coming season. We hope to fit the final skylight over the main snow slope in time for winter 2021/22.
MD and Owner, Jamie Smith, commented: “During a recent trip to Switzerland I was very fortunate to acquire the rights to the skylight technology developed by the late Professor Wons. It’s a simple and ingenious concept that only requires rainfall to effectively operate.
“The precise science behind the process called snowflakination is a closely guarded secret. However, in essence, it’s a very special skylight that instantly freezes rainwater to produce snow. I guess it’s science stranger than fiction.”
If all this seems too good to be true – it probably is. However, what’s for certain is that we can’t wait for skiers, snowboarders and ice-climbers to have the bluebird experience, brought to the indoor dome!
